Cipha Sounds

Introducing Cipha Sounds, a seasoned entertainer with a rich history in the world of comedy and radio. A dynamic personality with an unparalleled sense of humor, Cipha Sounds has spent over two decades honing his craft and leaving his unique mark on both the airwaves and the comedy stage. Cipha Sounds' journey into the entertainment industry began in 1996, when he started as an intern with Wildman Steve and DJ Riz of New York’s Flip Squad. Displaying a natural talent for the turntables, DJ Riz mentored Cipha, eventually inviting him to serve as an opening DJ at club gigs. This was merely the start of his meteoric rise in the industry. His talent caught the attention of Lil’ Kim, who asked him to accompany her on tour. For a year and a half, Cipha Sounds toured the U.S. and Europe, gaining invaluable experience and a rapidly growing fan base. Upon his return to the U.S., he joined Hot 97’s Funkmaster Flex's Big Dawg Pitbulls crew, further solidifying his standing in the radio world. Cipha Sounds became a regular feature on Hot 97, eventually hosting his own show, 'Cipha Saturdays'. His charisma and wit also led him to host 'The Cipha Sounds Effect' on Sirius Satellite Radio’s Shade 45 channel, alongside Angela Yee, DJ Wonder, and the Emoticon Farragut Foster. In 2004, he ventured into the world of podcasting, starting 'The Juan Epstein Podcast' which later became the weekend morning show on Hot 97 with Peter Rosenberg, known as 'The Cipha/Rosenberg Experience'. The show's popularity led to it being moved to a weekday slot, and the team expanded to include Ebro Darden and Laura Stylez. Cipha Sounds is credited as the first to play artists such as Rihanna and Rick Ross on NYC Radio, demonstrating his knack for identifying emerging talent.
