Who we are

This website, jkcomedyclub.co.uk, and the JK Comedy Club shows are run by JK COMEDY CLUB LTD, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 16937455), registered office 128 City Road, London EC1V 2NX. We are the data controller for the personal data described in this policy, registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office under number ZC201372. You can contact us about anything in it at info@jkcomedyclub.co.uk.

What we collect and where it comes from

  • When you book a ticket – your name, email address and the details of your booking (show, date, number of tickets). Payment is taken by the ticketing platform you book through; we never see or store your card details. Most tickets are sold through Ticket Tailor; if you book through another ticketing platform, that platform passes us the same booking details.
  • When you join our mailing list, enter a competition or send us an enquiry – the details you give us, such as your name, email address and message.
  • When you visit this website – technical and usage data (pages viewed, device and browser type, approximate location, and how you reached the site), collected by cookies and similar technologies only with your consent (see Cookies below).
  • When you leave a public review on Google or another review platform, we can see it there, and we may quote it on this website.

How we use your data and our legal grounds

  • To fulfil your booking – confirming it, admitting you to the show, and telling you if a show changes or is cancelled. Legal ground: performance of our contract with you.
  • To email you about our shows. If you have bought a ticket from us we may email you about similar shows and offers, unless you tell us not to; if you signed up to our mailing list we email you because you asked us to. Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time. Legal ground: our legitimate interest in promoting our shows to people who have come to them (with an opt-out on every message), or your consent where you signed up directly.
  • To answer your enquiries and deal with any complaint or dispute. Legal ground: our legitimate interest in running the business and responding to you.
  • To understand how the website is used and to measure our advertising, so we can improve both. Legal ground: your consent, given through the cookie banner.
  • To meet our legal obligations, such as keeping accounting records. Legal ground: legal obligation.

We do not use your data to make automated decisions that have a legal or similarly significant effect on you.

Who we share it with

We share personal data only with the service providers we need to run the business, and only for the purposes above:

  • ticketing platforms that sell and manage bookings (including Ticket Tailor);
  • the venue hosting your show, where it needs a guest list to admit you;
  • our email service provider, used to send booking-related and marketing emails (Mailchimp);
  • analytics and advertising services (Google), where you have consented to those cookies;
  • the providers that host our website, email and internal business tools.

These providers act on our instructions under contracts that protect your data. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with anyone else for their own marketing. We may also disclose data where the law requires it.

International transfers

Some of the providers above store data outside the UK, including in the United States. Where they do, the transfer is protected by safeguards recognised under UK data-protection law, such as the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or the UK International Data Transfer Agreement / Addendum.

How long we keep it

  • Booking records: for as long as we are required to keep accounting records (currently six years after the end of the financial year of the booking).
  • Mailing-list data: until you unsubscribe, after which we keep only the minimum needed to make sure we do not email you again.
  • Enquiries: for up to two years after our last contact, unless a dispute means we need them longer.
  • Website analytics: retained by the analytics provider for up to 26 months.

Your rights

Under UK data-protection law you have the right to ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you; to have it corrected or deleted; to restrict or object to how we use it (including an absolute right to object to direct marketing); to receive it in a portable format; and, where we rely on your consent, to withdraw that consent at any time. To exercise any of these, email info@jkcomedyclub.co.uk. We will respond within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk. We would appreciate the chance to resolve it with you first.

Cookies

Cookies that are strictly necessary for the site to work (for example, remembering your cookie choice or completing a booking) are always set. Analytics and advertising cookies – used to measure how the site is used and how our advertising performs – are set only if you choose Accept on the cookie banner. If you choose Reject, they are not set. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the ticket checkout is provided by Ticket Tailor and sets the cookies it needs to complete your booking. The interactive Google map on our venue pages, and any embedded YouTube video, load only after you choose Accept or click to open them; until then you see a cookie-free map image or video preview.

Children

Our shows and this website are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18.
