JK Comedy Club Covent Garden

Covent Garden Comedy Club — Live Stand-Up Comedy

Live comedy above a classic London pub, from just £10

Our Covent Garden Venue: The Nell of Old Drury

JK Comedy Club Covent Garden is located upstairs in The Nell of Old Drury, a historic pub at 29 Catherine Street, London WC2B 5JS. An inn has stood on this site since 1423, making it one of the oldest pub locations in London. The current building dates from 1720 and was rebuilt in 1883. It was licensed in 1835 as The Sir John Falstaff before being renamed in 1965.

The pub is named after Eleanor “Nell” Gwyn, the famous orange seller and mistress of King Charles II, who was reputedly born in a coalyard in nearby Drury Lane. Legend has it that a secret tunnel once connected the pub to the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, used by the king to visit Nell — though the tunnel has never been found. The pub also featured in Alfred Hitchcock’s 1972 film Frenzy, alongside atmospheric scenes of the old Covent Garden fruit and vegetable market.

Getting Here

The Nell of Old Drury is on Catherine Street, steps from the Theatre Royal Drury Lane and a three-minute walk from Covent Garden tube station (Piccadilly line). The piazza, street performers, and restaurants of Covent Garden market are right around the corner. Holborn and Temple stations are also within walking distance.
